What To Look For When Choosing A Contractor?

Every week we come across homeowners who have been burned by using a contractor who didn’t deliver what they promised. Your home is typically your family’s biggest asset and anytime you have contractor work on it you need to do your research.  Are they licensed?  How long have they been in business?  Do they use subcontractors?

A good place to start your research is by asking your friends and family for referrals. Once you have collected a list of candidates, take the time to meet with each individually. Pay close attention to how you’re treated during the process of getting an estimate, as this can often be an indicator of issues down the road.  During your estimate, be sure to ask the contractor or salesperson to provide details in writing. Also, be cautious of any company that offers a “discount” but then takes it off the table if you’re unwilling to make a decision right away. By doing your research and knowing what to look for, you can significantly improve your home remodeling experience.
