Title: Field Supervisor
Reports to: Production Manager
Supports: Field / Sales / Warehouse
Position under direct supervision: Project Foremen
Job Summary
The Field Supervisor sets the tone for the field employees. He must maintain high morale and be a motivator and supporter to all field employees. He must assist and support the foreman with job planning, job production, job paperwork, job disputes, and collections. He must inspect all projects for safety, proper specifications, quality installation and workmanship. He must oversee the training of all field personnel in the installation of all types of materials. He is responsible for the profitability of every project. The Field Supervisor has the responsibility for providing extraordinary customer service during all phases of the job and to insure that the company goal of 'Creating the Best Possible Experience for Our Customers' is fulfilled.

- Forklift Operator Certification
- Generally know how to maintain the field equipment to prevent breakdowns
- Be in good health and physically fit to climb ladders, scaffolding, and steep roofs
- Maintain a valid Maryland drivers license
Functional Responsibilities:
- Leadership - This is the essence of the Field Supervisor's job
- The Field Supervisor is a leader, accepts responsibility and is accountable for the performance of the production crews
- The Field Supervisor's #1 job is to assist and support the Project Foremen in maintaining a smooth daily operation so as to reach a successful completion of all projects.
- Relationships
- Maintain good working relationships with Production Manager, Production Department staff, Project Foremen, Warehouse staff, all field personnel, salesmen, Sales Department staff and Administration Department staff.
- Project Management
- Review project paperwork with foreman and plan accordingly
- Coordinate all material order delivery to the jobsite
- Coordinate job details with foreman
- Coordinate scheduling of field personnel
- Coordinate scheduling of equipment (dumpsters, etc.)
- Manage job progress according to plan
- Maintain good communication with the customer
- Improve quality by suggesting profitable change orders
- Assist Project Foremen with specifications, pricing, preparation and presentation of change orders
- Assist Project Foremen in prompt collection of payments
- Manage all jobs to a successful and profitable completion
- Assures that the job site is properly maintained, cleaned up each day and upon completion
- Scheduling
- Assist Production Manager with assigning new projects to proper crews
- Keep the Production Manager up to date on all job progress and delays daily
- Quality, Productivity & Profitability
- Manage the Total Quality of a job to insure it is done right the first time
- Knows manufacturer's specifications and installation requirements
- Knows project specifications for all projects
- Assists Project Foremen in maintaining company productivity goals
- Improves quality and profitability by suggesting profitable change orders
- Inspects all projects for quality workmanship and proper installation
- Completes Field Supervisor report for each project and presents at TQM
- Reviews labor standards on a daily basis and suggest changes at TQM
- Job Safety
- Assures job is properly posted with the required notices
- Assures Project Foremen adheres to safety guidelines
- Assures each job is planned to minimize risk
- Assures all required safety equipment is at the job site
- Responsible for the repair and maintenance of all company safety equipment
- Locates nearest emergency telephone and emergency services for each project
- Reports any injuries immediately to the Production Manager
- Responsible for having foreman file injury report the same day of accident
- Responsible for having drivers file accident report the same day of the accident
- Manpower Development, Training and Coaching
- Recommend new hires
- Assist the Production Manager with all field personnel hiring
- Assist Production Manager with performance reviews of Project Foremen
- Assist Production Manager with field personnel discipline
- Assist Project Foremen with the performance reviews of their crew members
- Assure all field employees are being trained as needed to acquire new skills needed for advancement
- Assist Project Foremen with training of field personnel
- Coach foremen to sell change orders
- Assist foreman with writing proper specifications and calculating price on change orders
- Coach foremen on how to maximize their performance through job planning and set up
- Assist estimators with diagnosing roof leaks, using proper specifications, and estimating labor and material budgets
- Customer Service Management
- Communicates with the customers before, during and after the each job
- Advises Project Foremen and crews are aware of any special customer conditions
- Daily Work Requirements
- Report to work EVERY DAY (rain or shine) at the agreed time. This is a salary job - work hours are generally 6:30 am to 5:00 pm, but in actuality, there are 'whatever it takes to get the job done'.
- Record the field personnel attendance for the day
- Adjust crew mix based on attendance for the day
- Oversee and assist foreman with loading materials and equipment in the a.m.
- Visit all jobs and inspect for:
- Safety of job site and crew
- Highest quality installation following all Fick Bros. standards and procedures.
- Productivity of crew
- Cleanliness of jobsite
- Investigate to make sure work performed will solve the customer's problems.
- Any additional work needed
- Report problems to the Production Manager immediately.
- End of the Day
- All trucks are properly cleaned of unnecessary equipment, trash, and materials
- Make sure all trucks are parked neatly in the warehouse or yard
- Make sure all foremen turn next day planners into warehouse
- End of the Job
- Go back over the complete project checking all details.
- Check valleys and gutters to see that they are clean and free of any debris.
- Check all around house, bushes and gardens for any debris or damage to siding, windows, shutters, and landscaping.
- Make sure the jobsite is cleaner when the crew leaves than when they got there
- Tele-communications
- As a condition of employment, the field supervisor shall be responsible to maintain a working telephone at his/her residence and shall be required to provide that telephone number to the Production Manager
- The field supervisor must carry his/her company cell phone at all times
- Vehicle Fleet Management
- All trucks must be kept clean (inside and out) on a daily basis
- Schedule trucks due for service every month with vehicle mechanic
- Report any truck related problems to vehicle mechanic immediately
- All other related duties as required
